Stagger the Joy

As I was walking home yesterday evening, I noticed this woman laden down with bags of shopping. I asked her if I could help her carry them but she declined.

"Have you been Christmas shopping?" I said.

"Yes, it's all been too much."

"I hope they like what you've bought them," I said.

"So do I."

I wished my friend the best and walked off.

Why do people put themselves under all that stress just because someone has decided that particular day is the Day to give to others. Surely if you really want to show your friends and loved ones how much you care you could stagger the joy over the rest of the 364 (or 365) days in the year?

Oh well, each to their own.

I have no problem with receiving gifts. If someone chooses to give me something for Christmas, I will gladly accept it. I also know that I am blessed every single moment. As I see it, every day is an opportunity for me to experience blessings. I have observed that many of these blessings come in little packages like a smile, a bus seat near a window when I need it, being able to enjoy lovely parks and walks, being in perfect health, meeting wonderful people every day, my family, friends, music, art, films, books, the Internet, the media, great ideas, good food...etc.

I am infinitely blessed in every moment.
Every day is Christmas Day.
