As the bus I was on was approaching a bus stop, I noticed all these kids waiting. Oh no, school kids! Please don't let them come on this bus! My prayer wasn't answered. They piled on board and headed upstairs where I was sitting. Bugger!
The kids sat in pairs and were very excited. Their teachers asked them to sit quietly. I was curious about where they were headed. When a young man, presumably one of their teachers, sat next to me I asked him. He said they were taking the kids to the cinema. I said my teachers never took us to the cinema when I was at school.
The man told me the kids were in their final year at primary school. We compared notes about our education. My friend was educated in South Africa while I had my primary and secondary education in Sierra Leone. He said he's been living in London for ten years; while I've been living in London for 29 years. I asked him about life in South Africa.
I told my friend that when I saw the kids at the bus stop, I didn't want them to get on the bus. He laughed and said he could perfectly understand because at weekends he tries to avoid kids. It was lovely chatting with my friend.
I'm glad my prayer wasn't answered as I would have missed out on the lovely conversation with the teacher.
