Can a Leopard Change Her Spots?

When I was a child there was a particular African vegetable dish I didn't like but I had to eat. I vowed to myself that when I become an adult I would never have it.

After I left home, I didn't eat much African food. I can't cook the traditional dishes anyway nor was I ever interested in learning how to. I would only have some when I went to visit my mother. She never prepared the dish I didn't like.

When my mother and I started living together I still wouldn't have this dish when she cooked it.

Some time last year she cooked this sauce and asked if I'd like to try some. I said I didn't. Mum reminded me that if I truly believed in the principle of every moment is new i.e. "that was then, and this is now", I should put my money where my mouth is and test that principle. My mother had a point. I tried a spoonful and didn't like it.

Yesterday, my mother cooked the same vegetable dish with oil rather than the usual palm oil. I was curious to taste what it was like. I was pleasantly surprised that I actually liked it so much I had a plateful.

It just shows that some leopards do change their spots. I'll see if I still like the dish enough to have more tonight.

I wonder if I'll ever get to like avocado?

Hmmm, one step, I mean spot, at a time. :-)
